Chakravyuh

All I could feel was the beats of the song playing through the loudspeakers and running down through my ears creating a circuit of vibration from my head to toe connecting to the speakers.

Everyone around me dancing to the playlist of songs seemed happy and excited. Or they were also trapped in the system of hypocrisy I thought. Something inside me was pulling me backwards and all I wanted was this party to get over as quick as possible. I tried hard to move with the changing beats, but I was someplace else. Fortunately, I saw Deepika walking towards me, and then asked ‘Wanna have a drink?’

We went to the kitchen which was way more silent than the hall and poured ourselves two shots of vodka.
‘Congratulations!’, she said before we took the first shot.
‘For what?’, with a puckered face I asked her back.
‘Well, we won the award because of you.’, she complimented.
‘Technically, one man cannot alone win the Fastest-Growing Company of the Year award. It could happen only because of the team effort, a chakravyuh.’
‘Ha? What does that…’
‘I need to get go and get some sleep.’ I interrupted before she could take the conversation further and took the second shot of vodka.
‘See you on Monday. Goodnight, Deepika.’ I left towards the door booking an Uber cab.

The Uber was on its way to pick me up, but a pint of beer and two shots of vodka made me sit beside the gates.

Across the street, I could see two dogs playing – biting, ducking and climbing over each other. I wondered when was the last time I was happy for nothing and free from everything.

The cab had reached and honked for me. I picked myself up got into the car and looked at the dogs before the car took off.

I made myself comfortable and said ‘Chakravyuh‘.
