We are born and the first thing we do is cry.
Why do homo sapiens’ offspring cry during their birth? For almost all my life, I believed what I was told and taught, which is, to adjust to the new environment starting with the first breath. As I write from the context of my process journey in search of help, at one point in my life I even stood against the belief system of the human brain that is my beliefs.
Scientifically, it is true that we cry at birth because of various biological reasons. Also, for a new life to start functioning, it is logical to have such an intense crying session. But what is it that comes out of a baby when they cry for the very first time? Sound from the voice of a forceful cry, even the mute ones which is a form of expression just like any other human activity. A beautiful expression where everyone cries out of happiness, but the new one.
It took a whole scientific revolution to understand why babies cry. I cried. I still cry like a baby as I have been carrying the agony of life unaware of what life is all about and who am I. As they are brought up, they are taught to identify as mentioned in the previous article. During this brain development, the brain’s understanding capacity evolves to find its places and spaces in this world. With human evolution, language emerged as a tool to communicate. On top of this, when science started helping us identify the external and internal worlds, language catalyzed human expansion into what we now see as modern civilizations.
Even with around 6,500 human languages created over 300,000 years of evolution, we still fight and cry.
If we curiously go in search of solving our problems and reach their sources, we understand that language doesn’t exist and is just an imaginary tool created out of sound and actions to transfer information. We also have sign language, braille and at times we use silence and weapons as well to express ourselves.
In my case, I couldn’t pick up any language until the age of four. When my parents like any educated parents, took me to the doctor and post-examination, they said, “he will speak one day”. My mom is still waiting as she couldn’t see the stress the world was giving her son as he never had the language to express himself. My brain was in search of the language to express my problems so that I could solve them and be at peace. During the search, the stress kept piling up as I learned and unlearned through epistemology.
Epistemology is the theory of knowledge, especially related to its methods, validity, scope, and the distinction between justified belief and opinion. With this, you refine your belief systems. But then, what to believe in and how to believe when nothing exists. Everything starts when you are born and ends at your death.
It is said that the Sentinelese language of the Andaman Islands doesn’t have a word for ‘wish’. In Sentinelese, how will I ever express my hunger to succeed in life and live peacefully? Do they not wish for anything? Imagine how content they might be with their lives. How do they manage to solve their problems? Maybe they don’t have problems like us as they are an uncontacted indigenous tribe.
If you ever happen to understand how indigenous tribal communities function, the ‘you’ is quite fluid and they stand for each other. In the culture which I was born into, not even my family, school, medical science, or any spiritual philosophy could help me as I was going through the agony of life. But then my hunger for help kept growing as I wasn’t getting any. I started working on myself with the realization that I have to live this time till death.
Thus, the kid who was born through pain, in pain decided to live a purposeful life as everything is purposeless. I am now aware that the whole Cosmos is one story in some language which, we have been in search of since creation. I am working on my language formation, so I can express my voice that ‘I love You’. But since I don’t have the language to explain that I and You are one and the same and don’t exist distinctively, but only the feeling of love, my inner voice is now a force of consciousness to make this world a better place to live in.
Ever since antiquity, such voices have become forces that changed the world for them including Hitler, Buddha and Gandhi.
Be hungry to express your voice!
